Matis Leima started his musical path at the Saku Music School, continued in composition at the Tallinn Georg Ots Music School and graduated cum laude in 2020 from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre in electroacoustic composition. He has studied violin, piano, trumpet and, independently, garmon. He has composed acoustic and electronic music for theatre, bands, etc. In addition to many private students, Matis teaches various instruments and composition at the Tartu music school Helivõlu, as well as in several instrument camps. Matis performed his mandatory military service with the orchestra of the Estonian Defence Forces; he has studied traditional music at the Viljandi Culture Academy and also graduated cum laude from the University of Tartu, majoring in history. Matis is a member of ensembles Kiiora, Zetod, H6im and Senat, and in the summer of 2021, he founded the rehearsal and recording studio Helikon in Tallinn.
