Altera Veritas

The chamber ensemble Altera Veritas (‘the other truth’ in Latin) was founded in 1999, with the specific aim to perform contemporary music written for non-traditional instruments ensemble: the kokle (Latvian traditional folk instrument), the flute and the accordion. Over the years, in cooperation with renowned Latvian and foreign composers, more than 100 compositions have been created for Altera Veritas. The ensemble has performed countless solo recitals both in Latvia and abroad, including Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Portugal, Sweden, Norway, Turkey, Estonia, Lithuania and more. Altera Veritas has recorded two albums, collaborated with various ensembles, choirs and orchestras (including the vocal group Schola Cantorum Riga, Latvian Radio Choir, State Choir Latvija, Youth Choir Kamēr…, Rīga Chamber Players and Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, among others). In 2004, Altera Veritas was awarded the highest music prize in Latvia – the Great Music Award – for their bright and creative interpretations of Latvian contemporary music and for inspiring Latvian composers.
