Rasmus Puur

Rasmus Puur (b. 1991) graduated in 2014 from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre as a composer (BA) under the guidance of Prof. Tõnu Kõrvits and René Eespere. Besides, he studied supplementary conducting with Prof. Tõnu Kaljuste. In 2012 he participated in the international Arrangers Workshop in Hilversum (Netherlands) led by Vince Mendoza and Metropole Orkest. In 2007–2017 he led and conducted with his friend Edmar Tuul Youth Orchestra Reaalmažoor, which during its existence had over 80 concerts and 6 albums.

Rasmus Puur has collaborated as composer and conductor with most of the Estonian professional orchestras and choirs (Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Estonian National Opera Symphony Orchestra, Symphony orchestra of theatre Vanemuine, Nargenfestival Orchestra, Estonian National Male Choir, Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir etc). Puur is also a well-known and acknowledged arranger and orchestrator (J. Kasar/U. Uusberg opera From the Roof, P. Pajusaar children opera Prince and the Pauper, P. Pajusaar musical Lotte in the Dream World). Rasmus Puur has been musical director and conductor of Jarek Kasar’s opera From the Roof (NO99/Straw Theatre) and musical Shrek (NUKU). He has also composed for different drama productions in Tallinn City Theatre, Estonian Drama Theatre, Theatre Ugala, Rakvere Theatre, Kinoteater and Nargen Opera.

Rasmus Puur was one of the conceptual authors and the assistant of the chief conductor in XII Estonian Youth Song and Dance Festival Here I’ll stay in 2017. In the same year’s autumn premiered his first opera The Colours of the Clouds in the Estonian National Opera. In 2019 he was a mixed choir conductor at the 150th jubilee celebration of Estonian Song and Dance Festival. Since 2015 he has been the conductor of Tallinn Old Town Music School String Orchestra. Since October 2021 is Puur a cultural advisor to the president of the Republic of Estonia. Rasmus Puur has received many awards and recognitions, among others Veljo Tormis Fund scholarship (2020), Tõnu Kaljuste Fund scholarship (2021), LHV Composition Prize (2021), Young Cultural Figure Award (2021).
