Patrick T. Schäfer (b. 1993) studied composition in Munich, Stuttgart, and Graz with Hans-Jürgen von Bose, Isabel Mundry, Marco Stroppa, and Beat Furrer. He completed his concert exam with honors under Miroslav Srnka at the Cologne University of Music and Dance.
Schäfer’s work includes music for the concert hall, electronic music, film music, theater music, and music theater. At the heart of his compositional practice is the idea of sound as a natural and immediate medium for immersion. In his pieces, he searches for sonic/compositional equivalents for social practices, sociocultural developments, or phenomena of perception, from which he forms detailed soundscapes. The result is a dense and multidimensional music, using a wide variety of compositional techniques and sonic materials.
