Anna-Margret Noorhani

Anna-Margret Noorhani is a composer whose oeuvre encompasses orchestral and chamber works, electronics, and audiovisual projects. She approaches each new work as an independent entity, merging diverse soundscapes and aesthetic directions to forge a clear and distinctive musical language.

Noorhani studied composition at the Tallinn Music High School under Ülo Krigul and at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre under Helena Tulve and Toivo Tulev. From 2014 to 2018, she participated in the Loomelabor (Creators’ Lab) summer school, where her work was influenced by several prominent Estonian composers and educators, including Tatjana Kozlova-Johannes, Kristo Matson, Tauno Aints, Maria Kõrvits, and Liis Jürgens. Since 2021, Noorhani has been studying composition at the National Superior Conservatory of Music and Dance of Lyon (CNSMD Lyon) under David Chappuis. She has also furthered her development through individual lessons with internationally renowned composers such as Adam Porębski, Yan Mareszi, Slawomir Horinka, Mauro Lanza, Luca Antignani, Emmanuelle Da Costa, and Daniel D’Adamo.

Her work has been frequently recognized at international competitions and platforms. In 2017, her audiovisual work Insomnia was named one of three laureates at the EAMT audiovisual composition competition. In 2018, Process of Immersion for brass quintet won third prize at the “Young Composer” competition, followed by first prize at the same competition a year later with her work flutonic distortion for flute and electronics. In 2023, her piece METRO 8 for drum kit and cello was selected for the International Rostrum of Composers.

Noorhani has received commissions from numerous distinguished ensembles and institutions, including the Orchestre de Chambre de la Drôme, the Helsinki Chamber Orchestra, the Lutetia Trombone Quartet, Trio ’95, and the Philharmonie de Paris. Her music has been performed at various European festivals, such as InSonic (Karlsruhe), the Baltic Music Days and Estonian Music Days, Jeunes Talents Européens (Paris), and the Festival de Musique Sacrée (Crest, France).
