Ingrid Kõrvits

Since 2002, Ingrid Kõrvits has been a general conductor at the Estonian Song Festivals; at the 2025 Song Festival “Iseoma”, she conducted the selected women’s choirs. She has served on the juries of several national and international competitions, such as the Euroradio choral competition Let the Peoples Sing, the international Seghizzi choral competition in Gorizia, Italy, and the international Baltic Sea choral competition in Jūrmala, Latvia, as part of the European Grand Prix series.

Ingrid Kõrvits considers the promotion of choral music and choral conducting in Estonia to be of great importance. Among her former students are several of today’s successful young conductors; with her choirs, she has achieved numerous award-winning placements and conductor prizes at international competitions. She has appeared with presentations and led workshops at various international symposia and festivals in Estonia, Hungary, Greece, the USA, and China, introducing Estonian choral music and the relative solfège method.

She has prepared her choirs for, and participated in, several collaborative projects with professional orchestras and choirs, as well as renowned conductors and directors. The most recent of these with the Ellerhein Girls’ Choir took place in September 2025 during the Pärt Days with the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Olari Elts, and in October with the Estonian Festival Orchestra, the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, and the Estonian National Male Choir for a performance of Arvo Pärt’s “Credo”, conducted by Paavo Järvi.

Five CDs have been released under the direction of Ingrid Kõrvits: the Tallinn Music High School girls’ choir CDs “Heliseb väljadel” (2009) and “Magnificat” (2015), and the Ellerhein Girls’ Choir CDs “Valguse laulud” (2017), “Taevalaulud” (2023), and the score and CD of Mart Saar’s children’s opera “The Lost Princess” (Kadunud printsess, 2024). In 2014, Ingrid Kõrvits received the Uno Järvela Conductor’s Scholarship from the Estonian National Culture Foundation. In 2010 and 2016, the Estonian Choral Association awarded her the title of Conductor of the Year. In 2005, she received an award from the Endowment for Music of the Cultural Endowment of Estonia, and in 2010 and 2023, she received the annual prize from the Endowment for Folk Culture of the Cultural Endowment of Estonia. In 2025, she was awarded the Heino Kaljuste Fund Scholarship from the Estonian National Culture Foundation and the Gustav Ernesaks Choral Music Main Scholarship.
