Heili Rosin-Leivategija

Heili Rosin-Leivategija is an internationally recognized Estonian flutist and piccolo player. Her musical journey began in early childhood with piano studies and continued with the flute, which soon led her to the Tallinn Music High School in the flute class of Mihkel Peäske. Her further studies took place at Europe’s most esteemed higher education institutions: the Freiburg University of Music under Prof. Felix Renggli; the Conservatorium van Amsterdam under Kersten McCall and Vincent Cortvrint; and the Zurich University of the Arts under the guidance of Prof. Maria Goldschmidt-Pahn, Sabine Poyemorel, and Pamela Stahel, where she obtained her Master’s degree cum laude in 2018. Heili has furthered her skills at numerous masterclasses and festivals worldwide, working with renowned pedagogues such as Renate Greiss-Armin, Peter-Lukas Graf, Felix Renggli, Kersten McCall, Pirmin Grehl, and Andrea Lieberknecht.

Since 2017, she has been a regular participant at the International Piccolo Festival in Grado, Italy, where she has refined her craft with Jennifer Gunn (Chicago Symphony Orchestra), Nicola Mazzanti, and Sarah Jackson (Los Angeles Philharmonic), in addition to performing numerous solo recitals. Heili Rosin-Leivategija has won several international competitions, including First Prize and a special prize for the best performance of Aram Khachaturian’s Concerto in Armenia (2011); First Prize in the piccolo category at the Severino Gazzelloni International Flute Competition (Italy, 2017); and First Prize at the National Flute Association’s “Piccolo Artist Competition” (USA, 2018). She is also a laureate of the 11th Estonian Young Interpreters’ Competition-Festival “Con brio” (2010), where she received several special awards.

At just 19 years old, Heili served as the Principal Flute (Section Chair) of the Estonian National Opera. She has played in the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra and has performed with several international ensembles, including the Estonian Festival Orchestra, the Gstaad Festival Orchestra, the Norwegian chamber orchestra 1B1, the Nordic Symphony Orchestra, and the Baltic Sea Philharmonic. In 2018, she won the Solo Piccolo position with the North Netherlands Symphony Orchestra (Noord Nederlands Orkest). Today, Heili is active as a freelance musician in Germany’s top orchestras, including the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, the SWR Symphonieorchester in Stuttgart, the Bamberg Symphony, and the Chemnitz Theater Orchestra. Since 2020, Heili has been a Flute Lecturer at the Heino Eller Music School, and since 2022, a Flute and Piccolo Lecturer at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre.

Heili Rosin-Leivategija stands out for her brilliant musicality, technical mastery, and deep dedication, making her one of the most prominent Estonian wind players of her generation.
