Georg Jakob Salumäe (b. 2006) is currently studying composition at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre under the guidance of Professor Helena Tulve. He graduated from the music department of the Old Town Educational College (VHK) Gymnasium, where he studied composition with Professor Tõnu Kõrvits. In addition to composing, Salumäe is an active choral singer in the ensembles Goodnight, Brother (Head Ööd, Vend) and Tumult Ensemble. During his time at VHK, he sang in the St. Michael’s Boys’ Choir and played violin in the VHK String Orchestra. At the “LHV Young Composer” competition, he was awarded 1st prize in the junior category in 2021, and 1st prize in the senior category in both 2023 and 2025.
Salumäe has composed original scores for the theatrical productions Cervantoorium (Tartu New Theatre, 2022) and Letters of Konrad Mägi (Theatrum, 2023). In 2024, the string quartet M4GNET premiered his commissioned work Offertorium. He has maintained a long-term collaboration with singer Annabel Soode, who premiered his song cycle Songs of Heinsalu alongside pianist Kärt Ruubel in August 2024 at the concert “Into the Sky” (Taevasse), organized by Eesti Kontsert. In 2025, the ensemble Una Corda premiered his work In Tears (silmavees). Salumäe has also collaborated with numerous other professional musicians, including Iris Oja, Kaisa Roose, Piia Paemurru, Taavi Orro, Kadri Hunt, Margo Kõlar, Ene Salumäe, Kaspar Mänd, Krista Citra Joonas, Jorma Toots, Uku Gross, Kaur Pennert, and others.
