Why support us?

Every year, the contemporary music festival Estonian Music Days brings nearly 20 new works of Estonian composers to a wider audience. The festival creatively combines different art forms by including well-known musicians from various genres in the concert program. EMD strikes a balance between domestic and foreign, intimacy and grandeur, and the concert programmes include increasingly more crossovers between genres and styles. As a result, listeners with contrasting taste but sensitive ears and minds can be found in the audience.

The pieces are specially written for notable performances from our leading ensembles and soloists. Composers have often been able to experiment with seemingly strange ideas and dream ensembles which is rarely possible elsewhere. These opportunities have been favoured by the free and playful flight of thought of the festival’s artistic directors Helena Tulve and Timo Steiner.  EMD is a platform where the works of young composers are premiered alongside the works of world-renowned Estonian composers. The history of the EMD is also the continuing legacy of Estonian composition.
