Linda Leimane

Linda Leimane (*1989) is a Latvian composer, whose works often tend to be physicality and bodily art related. She works with orchestras, large ensembles, soloists in electroacoustic projects and electronics, as well as collaborates with artists of other media. She studied composition with Tamāra Kalna and Andris Dzenītis at the Jāzeps Mediņš Riga College of Music, and composition and electro-acoustic music at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, expanded her knowledge in composition and new music technologies at the National Conservatory of Music and Dance in Lyon, during her trainership at the sound research centre Agon in Milan and various workshops. Her principal teachers were Rolands Kronlaks, Michele Tadini, Robert Pascal and François Roux. Her music has been performed in Latvia, Estonia, France, Italy, Austria, Sweden, Switzerland, Netherlands and Australia. Linda Leimane’s and Artūrs Punte’s Dialexica was nominated for The Grand Music Award 2018, she was awarded first prize at the Pēteris Vasks composition competition in 2012, 2014 and 2015. She received the Tālivaldis Ķeniņš award in 2013. Her Guesstimations for chamber orchestra has been recorded by the Sinfonietta Riga and the conductor Normunds Šnē as part of the CD album released by SKANI, and the chamber symphony was included as one of the top five entries at the Roche Young commissions 2015 and Tactus forum 2015. Her symphonic work Panel 5 was included on Latvian Radio 3 Klasika as one of the top ten entries in the new composition category (2013).
