Conductor and singer Jaanika Kuusik has graduated from the department of choir conducting (teacher Anneli Mäeots) at Tallinn Music High School; obtained BA degree in the department of school music (Prof. Ants Soots) and MA degree in the department of choir conducting (Prof. Tõnu Kaljuste) at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. As a singer, Kuusik is also studying under the guidance of mezzo-soprano Triin Ella (Estonian National Opera Theatre). She has also taken classes from soprano and specialist in old music Emma Kirkby (Great Britain). In 2006, Kuusik began working as a conductor, teacher, choirmaster and voice teacher at Tallinn Music High School. Since 2009, Jaanika Kuusik has worked as a conductor of the Estonia National Opera Boys’ Choir “Juhanid” and since 2008 as a conductor of the mixed choir of Tallinn Rotary Club. Since 2010, Kuusik has been singing in an ensemble focusing on Greogorian chant “Vox Clamantis”. As as soloist, she has performed famous pieces by A. Pärt, J. S. Bach, G. F. Händel, A. Vivaldi, C. Saint-Saëns, H. Purcell and other composers. Jaanika Kuusik’s repertoire mainly includes contemporary music and she has collaborated with several Estonian composers but also with Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho, Spanish soprano Arianna Savall and others. As a soloist, Kuusik has performed with Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, Israel Camerata, ensemble “Barrocade” (Israel), Klaipeda Chamber Orchestra, Pärnu City Orchestra, Corelli Baroque Orchestra, Glasperlenspiel Sinfonietta and the Symphony Orchestra of Tallinn Music High School.
