Ekke Västrik

Sound has always been an important source of inspiration for Ekke Västrik (b. 1988). There is something interesting to be found in any sound whatsoever – harmony, resonance frequencies, rhythm patterns, vibrations, movement. Doesn’t matter if the sound has been produced electronically or acoustically, by an instrument or some random object: if you are open enough, you can find music wherever. At the moment, Ekke is mostly focused on finishing his composition studies at Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, with a particular interest in finding new ways to join electronics and acoustics. Västrik is regularly engaged in free improvisation and has a thing for very quiet and unstable sounds. Earlier this year Västrik released his second solo album “Klangfarbenmodular” with Detroit Underground, a multidisciplinary arts collective, functioning primarily as a record label dedicated to electronic-based experimental music and video installation.
